Ag Days

New at 2005 Ag Days were campus tours via hayrides for high school students from Idaho and the region (FFA, 4-H, and others).

At four workshops, high schoolers also got a taste of college-level research. Suited up in white lab coats and hairnets, students learned how to evaluate cuts of meat from Ron Richard, Vandal Brand Meats manager.

At other workshops they also extracted DNA and learned to identify wheat cultivar genes; explored tissue culture techniques through vegetative propagation; and used ultrasonography on dairy cows.

Children tossed rings for rizes as part of the fun for them during Saturday pre-game activities, near the Kibbie Dome.

Food, focus of Friday's Food and Activity Fair sponsored by student clubs, appeals to all ages. Centerpiece is always a dozen or more styles of chili prepared by students, faculty and staff for a competition. Five bucks buys you as many samples as you can eat.

No Ag Days is complete without Tom Stroschein, and other alums and friends, whose support is pivotal to the college's ongoing success.
